Our captaincy article is back to help you choose the right captain for game week 23. This year we are using data from the RMT Adviser’s algorithm and our experience to make our recommendations.
Rate My Team RMT Adviser’s picks
Alexis Sanchez
We begin this week’s captaincy article with a rather familiar name-Alexis Sanchez. Sanchez seems to be the most popular choice almost every week and to be fair to him he rarely seems to let people down. Sanchez once again delivered in the last game week although it has to be said he left it late- well very, very, very late as he converted a last minute penalty to pinch arsenal all 3 points at home to Burnley.
This round of fixtures sees Arsenal have what looks like it should be a plumb home game with a Watford side that has been largely underwhelming so far this season. The RMT Adviser’s algorithm has Sanchez at a phenomenally high 8.2 points this week with goal projections as follows; 0 goals 45% of simulations, 1 goal in 38%, 2 goals in 12% and 3 goals in 3% of all simulations run.
Zlatan Ibrahimović
Coming off a relatively rare blank game week last time out the RMT Adviser’s algorithm is backing the mighty Swede to rediscover his scoring touch in Man Utd’s home game with Hull City. The RMT Adviser’s algorithm has a projected points score of 7.2 which to put in context is very high because it is quite rare for the RMT Adviser’s algorithm to have players with over 6 points never mind the 7 and 8 for Zlatan and Alexis respectively. Rested for the weekends FA Cup stroll against Wigan Zlatan comes in to this game fresh and rested and raring to go.
I know Hull won when these two played last week but United played like a side with a comfortable 2 goal cushion and I can see them being quietly determined to set the record straight this time. Zlatan is likely to be a very popular captain pick this weekend and you can probably feel quite safe giving him the armband.
My picks
Dele Alli
My first pick is the super in-form Spurs midfielder. Scorer of 8 goals in his last 6 games and up against a seriously depleted Sunderland side who appear to be on a slide towards relegation looks too good to pass up. The RMT Adviser’s algorithm isn’t hugely keen on Alli projecting him to score a relatively modest 5.35 points with him scoring the following amount of goals; 0 in 67% of all simulations, 1 in 29%, 2 in 3% and 3 in 0.6%.
While the RMT Adviser’s algorithm doesn’t share my enthusiasm for giving Alli the armband this week I’d like to point out that he scored a vital goal for Spurs in the cup at the weekend to maintain his excellent goal scoring form and Sunderland have just sold another key player in Patrick van Aanholt. If you need further convincing then please also allow me to point you in the direction of his recent FPL scores- 9, 15, 14, 15, 6, 6. There is no player in better form currently in fpl and with a great looking fixture on paper surely you have to give him serious consideration.
Sergio Aguero
My other pick for this week feels like seeing an old friend for the first time in ages. Aguero, once considered an absolute must have among us fpl players, has seen his stock plummet over the last few months as a combination of rotation, relatively poor form and a bout of severe ill-discipline have seen us move on to new, fresh options (think Kane, Zlatan, Giroud, Lukakau). However I do feel that this week could be a good time to invest in City attackers in general as they hit a stretch of very reasonable fixtures with the exception of a blank in GW26 thanks to their neighbour’s excellence in reaching the EFL cup final.
Aguero comes in this week with a projected points score of 5.31 and has some okay projected scoring stats with 1 goal in 32% of simulations, 2 in 9.6% and 3 in 1.4%. City face a trip to West ham this week in a repeat of their recent FA cup tie in which City won 5-0, while it may be a touch unrealistic to expect a similar score this time City will start as favourites and as they showed for long spells against Spurs when they play well they are very tough to stop. While Aguero may not be the be all and end all of the City attack any more he is still a very potent differential among those sides who didn’t give up FPL months ago.
If you can navigate the bye week without too much squad disruption then now might be a good time to invest in a City attacker.
Going for Alli time to take a slight risk!
Great article as usual!
Well thought out write up. Thanks FH
Harry Kane for me!
Lots of candidates this week which is usually dangerous. Going Ali for now.
Think I am going with Ibra this weekend. He is due a hatrick
Do you know something about Carroll condition? He is on 75%. Can we expect him in starting line up?
@Drazen Montenegro ITK says Carroll is good to go
Main Team-Sanchez, Team B-Alli, My Rules-Ibra
@IvanTheTerrible Sanchez for me (because I’m a coward)…
What to do with Evans? Each transfer is imp. From now on till 28. Injuries anyway are out of control.
1. Already have 3 WBA player including Evans
2. Have 7 BGW-26 player excluding Evans…if he comes back by then…will have 8 players assuming no injury
3. Have only 4 BGW-28 player
@GoalMachine
GW 26 is on the 25th of February. There is a chance Evans might recover by then. Keep.
@GoalMachine Depends if you can field a good defense or not… If yes, keep him.
For GW28, 6-7 players are fine
@GoalMachine I have Evans too… Have been keeping in hope he’ll get well soon… Cost me dearly last week having him instead of McAuley or Brunt…. Hope it will end soon… Don’t know what to do really, as even for GW28 McAuley/Brunt would be better options… He even dropped from 4.5m to 4.4m too
On WILDCARD. Please help my team. Need suggestions with replacement. 0.5 in the bank.
@AlphaTeam Looks like a good team…
Kingsley wont be a starter, so you can try Fernandez/Naughton. Ward will probably have a blank in GW28, so you can add Nyom for him. Other than that, good to go…
Any news on Andy Carroll? Worth a punt instead of Lorrente?
@AlphaTeam Considering fixtures, I think he would be a better punt
@AlphaTeam Bilic has said everyone but Nordveeit is fit. And on that note I’m ready to go. Good luck everyone!
Arsenal face Chelsea again in 4 days! Will Sanchez get 90 min today
. Maybe it is time to captain Kane?
