Fantasy Football First 2016/17 Site Team for Game Week 25

My team was nominated as the official Fantasy Football First team. My job is to tell you how and why I have picked certain players and formations for the Fantasy Premier League, and explain my reasoning behind any changes along the way. This article explains the changes I have made to my team and why.

How did I do in game week 24?

For game week 24 I sold Coquelin and bought Snodgrass which gives me only 3 players blanking in game week 26, meaning I can field 11 players using my bench. If you are unsure what the impact of the FA Cup is on our FPL Team, read this helpful guide. I scored 63 points in a week where Lukaku scored loads, and my rank rose 14K to 219K. Time to push into the top 100K with using DGW navigation.

I am concerned with Mirallas’ game time and points return since I bought him, and Cedric continues to disappoint.

Last week and the week before I pointed out that I was concerned with Costa’s recent points return and my prefered replacement was Zlatan. However, I stuck with Costa because the upcoming fixtures are kind, and Zlatan has potential for a blank game week in 28 alongside the confirmed blank game week in 26. Costa’s return of 8 points was most satisfying. As mentioned on the podcast, we all have a tendency to transfer too early. Just look at Sigurdsson’s points since I sold him!

Game week 25

So my hit list is Mirallas and Cedric. Perhaps I should be happy with Cedric because he returned 12 points in game week 23, but this only really catched up for all the 1 and 2 point game weeks. I admit to myself that Southampton are defensively not as secure as they used to be. Add to this that Southampton don’t play in game week 26 and I have a good case for selling Cedric over Mirallas.

My aim in selling Cedric is to buy a player who gives me cover for game week 26 and 28, and has a track record of picking up points. This rules out the Hull defenders who have not a track record of earning points, despite their recent good form and good rotation potential in my defensive 5.

Instead I look to West Brom. Selling Cedric puts £5m in my bank account. My prefered option of Brunt is £5.1m, so I cannot afford him. Instead I go for McAuley because of his excellent points record. To confirm, I have sold Cedric and bought McAuley.

This does give me a little dilemma in that West Ham face West Brom today, so if I play McAuley then I have an 8 point pair in Snodgrass and McAuley. C’est la vie.

My captain this weekend is Sanchez and my line up for this weekend is:

My plan next week is to make no transfers until after the FA Cup games. However, if I do make an early transfer I will post it on here in a comment – not on twitter. So be sure to check back from time to time.

Best of luck this weekend.

  1. Nice article as always @ChorleyRocks

    But why Mannone over Grant?

I have the same goalkeepers, and I know Mannone is in a good form. But don’t you think Stoke has a better chance to keep a CS than Sunderland?

    Best of luck ;)

      • @ChorleyRocks

Thanks for that, and thats a good point there. I just changed Mannone as my starter. Lets hope you are right :fingerscrossed:

  2. Please help my team  Am I good to go? I FT and 0.1 ITB but I think I’ll roll it for the blank GW next week unless anyone thinks otherwise.
Contemplating starting Allen instead of Snodgrass to break up his 8point pair with Brunt. Probably not sensible though?

  3. Should I follow your transfer Cedric > Brunt? Mcauley and Brunt are the same price now or do I look at doing something with Amat or someone else. I have 1 FT and 0.7M itb.

      • @OldGoat @ChorleyRocks My bench right now is Amat, de Roon, Holebas and Foster. I think the keepers will both concede but Jaku has a higher chance of save points. I don’t mind rolling the FT but no idea what to do the upcoming week still haha.

I agree that your defence needs bolstering. However, the F.A Cup follows this GW so we should get a better picture as to which teams play and which teams have a blank in week 28.

With 0.7 in the bank you have limited choices for defenders. So maybe downgrading a premium midfielder with a blank in GW28 would free up cash for you.
If you really want to get rid of Cedric this week, then Brunt would be your best option.

ps – the predicted snow round my way never arrived, what happened Santa?

        • @OldGoat I’ll wait and save the transfer. I’ll have more time to evaluate my moves and more cash available if I choose to dowgrade a mid. I’ll wait for the outcome of the FA Cup games as well.

ps – 2cm of snow fell where I am, it’s nice and fluffy on the trees like a Christmas card. We don’t want your hooves getting too cold anyways, just looking out for you. ;)

I say no. You will be without Ibra, Sanchez and Cedric next week. Lallana is currently flagged as injured. The F.A Cup follows this week, so you may be grateful for having 2 FT next week. Plus heaton will probably earn you save points and maybe a bonus

  4. @Zaid thanks…deadline has passed…and put zaha in….hope the best to you and all manager in this game

  5. Team to face Hull: Cech, Bellerin, Mustafi, Koscielny, Gibbs, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Coquelin, Walcott, Ozil, Iwobi, Alexis.
Subs: Ospina, Monreal, Gabriel, Elneny, Lucas, Welbeck, Giroud.

  6. Hello. I’ve had a tough couple of gameweeks and, as a result, see myself about 80 points behind the league leader. I’m contemplating holding on to Sanchez and Zlatan and instead getting rid of someone who has been underperforming, like Townsend. I have my WC left, as well as all three chips, but I’m hoping to to use those when they really matter. Which West Ham midfielder would you suggest I bring in? TIA.

At the moment, Lanzini is the form player, followed by Snodgrass.
But hold fire for now as there are Champions League, Europa League and F.A Cup games to navigate before the next League fixtures.

        • @Hidayat

Sorry, think I must have mis-read the amount you had in the bank!
yes, Antonio would be the best pick.
If that money isn’t sitting in the bank for any future transfers, then bringing Siggy in for Stanislas or Phillips would also be a good move

  7. Please help my team  So for the past couple of weeks, I’ve been doing exceptionally well. This includes a staggering 11th place in FF1st January wildcard league. Since I’m mentioning that, do the top certain number get an invitation for the head to head league or something?

Back to the team. This week I’ve already done Ibra to Costa because I wanted to avoid the price drop. For GW28, I’m expecting to do Mannone to Jakupovic, Alli to Siggy, Stanislas to Snodgrass/Antonio and maybe Davies to a Swansea defender. That would leave me with at least 8 players.

Unfortunately, I only have 2 transfers left until GW28 meaning that if I will have 8 players I will have to take a hit. Even worse, I have the Sanchez issue that may denote that I have to take 2 hits in order to accommodate this arrangement.

In this view, I’m thinking to take a hit this week by doing Sanchez to Hazard although I can field a good starting 11. Next week Stanislas to Siggy (or Alli to Siggy if Stanislas plays today) or even roll the FT and then the transfers as I have suggested.

The other option is to do Mannone to Jakupovic this week for a hit since Hull play Burnley and my keepers have Spurs and Everton.

Please comment, provide feedback and/or suggestions.

    • @Zwischenzug Having made one move already I’d sit on your hands before making any more until the cup and European games’ dust has settled. I think that team is pretty strong for week 26. You could take a hit and move Sanchez out for Hazard / Mane. Or have a Stanislas – Hull midfielder punt. I’d stick with the goalies you have for now.

      • @Kralin Thank you. If I will take a hit it will only be to avoid having 11.8m on the bench. From one side, my starting 11 is pretty strong with or without that 11.8m, however, Sanchez will have to be replaced eventually. Could I avoid the Hazard switch and go straight for Stanislas to Siggy?

In addition, would you replace Grant or Mannone and for which keeper that plays on GW28? I’m thinking Grant to Jakupovic.

        • @Zwischenzug Stanislas to Siggy sounds fine, and is a squad-strengthening move. I think I’m going to hold off Siggy until after the Chelsea game, but he’ll be coming in soon after.

Grant has been a nice little earner this season. I would keep him. A Mannone – Jakupovic duo is cheap but doesn’t hold the promise of many clean sheets.

        • @ChorleyRocks And the ones who are already in the H2H leagues are excluded, right? :fingerscrossed:

I’ll enjoy my spot for now then. :toocool:

ps – I did sell Sanchez last night for Hazard. Gut feeling was too strong.

        • @Zwischenzug the h2h is for regulars only. What happens is it review all the teams in the h2h leagues and evict the managers who are no longer regular. I then sort out all the relegations and promotions. The remaining avaliable places go to the winners of the Qualification League, entering in division 2. There will be a minimum of 12 places and a probable 20 places.
