Using Expected Goals models in Fantasy Football

Earlier this game week we looked at shooting positions as a way of judging players. We found that City are getting in great positions while United and Chelsea, who have similar shot counts and goal counts, are not getting into positions as likely to score. We also observed Benteke should do well from headers while West Brom are getting the ball into dangerous positions but suffer from a lack of accuracy. However, in the article we also pointed out that there is danger in reading too much into stats when there is a small sample size, and 3 games per team is a small sample size. Continue reading

What we can learn from shooting positions in the first 30 FPL games

We are three game weeks into the Premiership season which does not really give us much data to look at, especially given we always warn of drawing conclusions from small sample sizes.
