Using Expected Goals models in Fantasy Football

Earlier this game week we looked at shooting positions as a way of judging players. We found that City are getting in great positions while United and Chelsea, who have similar shot counts and goal counts, are not getting into positions as likely to score. We also observed Benteke should do well from headers while West Brom are getting the ball into dangerous positions but suffer from a lack of accuracy. However, in the article we also pointed out that there is danger in reading too much into stats when there is a small sample size, and 3 games per team is a small sample size. Continue reading

You may think this is your last chance to gain a lead, with it being a double game week: but it’s not. Many a manager throws caution to the wind at this stage of the season with disastrous consequences.

Only two seasons ago I was ranked under top-10k in the world. In a last ditch attempt to break into the top-5K I made too many moves for the final DGW and then used the excuse “I’m having fun” to justify what were blatantly risky moves in GW38. I finished the season ranked a disappointing top-26k. If you ask me now, I’d have rather played safe and finished top-8k.
